L1 (male) captured on the Colville River, AK, on 1 July and fitted with a solar transmitter. He staged on the YK Delta for 3 weeks before migrating on August 2nd (~0800 h), making landfall on the Oregon coast on 4 August (~1100 h; see attached). He was one of 16 Whimbrels fitted with satellite transmitters. Nine have completed their migration from Alaska (6 remain on the AK staging grounds). There is another bird (L0, also a male and also with a solar transmitter) near Garibaldi, OR. He departed Alaska ~1000 h on 5 August and made landfall ~2300 h on 8 August. All other birds are south of the Salton Sea (as last year's crop) so we will be following the Oregon birds closely.

When we spotted Whimbrel L1 on 8/9/10, it was in a group of 23 Whimbrels, one of which was missing a foot.
